Monocular depth cues

1) Size difference- Objects that are further away from us appear
smaller than objects that are closer. In this picture below the trees that are farther away appear to be smaller. Even though trees don't have a fixed sized as telephone poles would have it's obvious at least to me that the smaller trees in the back are most likely the same size if not bigger than the closer trees. They only appear smaller because they're farther away. \

2) Occlusions- Objects that are closer to one can block objects that are further away. In this image you can see the rock my avatar is standing in front of is blocking the cliff ahead. The rock that is bigger appears to be closer to me which is it. The farther away cliff appears to be smaller. This is occlusion.

3) Lighting and Shading-
This cliff here is an example of lighting and shading. This is when light strikes an object that has depth. You can see the deeper part of the cliffs are much darker. This is because of the way the light is hitting the cliff. Parts of the cliff are shading the rocks that are deeper.

4) Texture Density- In this image you can see the different texture density in the grass or ground below. The density and texture of the ground or grass is more detailed and or dense the closer and farther away you are. This is just one of the cues that creates the the appearance of distance whether closer or farther away.

5) Linear Perspective- In this image you can see linear perspective. The dirt race track or road ahead is an example of this. It appears to be getting smaller in width. This making it seem like its farther away. If this continues the road would eventually disapear.

6) Atmospheric Perspective- In this image you can see atmospheric perspective. This is when object that appear to be closer are sharper and clearer while farther away images tend to be blurrier. Look at the cacti plants in the image. The one that is very close has much more detail than the one farther away.
